President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, has praised President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan for his wise leadership. He said Sheikh Khalifa is a leader who commands great wisdom and vision.
In an exclusive interview to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), The Kazakh President praised the UAE for achieving comprehensive development and attributed those achievements to the wise leadership of Sheikh Khalifa.
He said with these great achievements and development, the UAE had become the attraction of major international companies looking for the right investment opportunities. He noted that his country was trying to emulate the UAE's experience in economic diversification and diversification of its sources of revenue, adding that the incentives and facilities being offered by the UAE were unmatched by those on offer in other countries in the region.

He said the outcome of those talks will certainly reflect positively on the peoples of the two friendly nations, adding that the exchange of visit between him and the UAE president continued to boost relations of cooperation between the UAE and Kazakhstan and paves the way for new avenues of joint actions.
He pointed out that they both shared similar views on a number of issues of mutual interest related to developments on the regional and international scenes. He stressed the need to protect the gains achieved by the two countries in various areas. "We are committed to benefiting from the UAE's experience in the area of attracting foreign investment and investors, as well as in economic zones management where the UAE has achieved great successes. There are also the great development the country has achieved in the area of building and construction, economy and tourism," he said, adding that his visit to the UAE had led to the signing of a number of bilateral agreements, including an extradition agreement, legal assistance on criminal questions and legal assistance in civil and commercial issues.
In an answer to a question on the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, President Nazarbayev said bilateral ties between the two countries dated long years back. He said the UAE was the first country to recognise the independence of Kazakhstan 1991, adding that his first visit to the UAE was in 2000 during which he met and held talks with the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan. "Since then relations between the two countries continue to grow stronger," he said.
He pointed out that the UAE is his country's number 1 strategic partner in the Arabian Peninsula because relations between the two countries are based on solid foundation in view of the partnership agreements the two countries had signed over the years.
He said trade exchange between the two countries reached USD300 million last year, adding that the figure is highly tipped to rise higher in view of the positive economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Nazarbayev said, "There is great similarity between the economies of the UAE and Kazakhstan, which depend on oil and gas. Hence, they have to look for joint methods to diversify national income sources and economy."
He added that the oil and gas sector in his country needs greater cooperation from the UAE investors, indicating that "there are huge untapped opportunities in natural resources in Kazakhstan. Nazarbayev said that Kazakhstan signed the agreement with the UAE Mubadala Company to exploit oil from the largest Kazak oil field. "During our talks with the UAE leadership we project that the UAE will set up oil refinery and gas liquefaction plants in Kazakhstan."
The Kazak president noted that Kazakhstan would soon endorse the Islamic banking regulations ahead of setting up the UAE subsidiary Islamic banks, adding that the Islamic banking system has bright future. He said that the UAE and Kazakhstan were about to striking a deal on spurring mutual investments, following the success of the double tax evasion agreement signed last year.
He noted that over the last two days he discussed with the senior UAE officials a number of projects worth US$1 billion.
Nazarbayev said the launching of direct air route by Etihad Airline from Abu Dhabi to Astana contributed in promotion of the tourist, economic and commercial ties between the two friendly countries. He said that the visit paid by UAE President to Kazak capital, Astana, on July 14, 2008, was historic for the relations between the two countries. He added that the Abu Dhabi executes projects in Kazakhstan, notably, the Abu Dhabi Plaza Project at the economic zone in Kazak capital, worth over US$1billion.
On dealing with the repercussions of the global financial crunch, Nazarbayev said the UAE and Kazakhstan reviewed and studied feasibility of some projects in the light of partnership and understanding between the two countries. He added that he had agreed with Sheikh Khalifa to continue promoting the relations for the future despite the world financial crisis.
He noted that the unified regional currencies would not be a solution to the global financial crunch, but a unified world currency could be a solution to all current crises. "All countries should quickly contemplate creation of a new world banking accountability system and a unified world currency to replace the current currencies.
