Khon Kaen Silk Festival Kicks off
KHON KAEN, Dec 1 (TNA) - The annual Khon Kaen Silk Festival showcases conventional garments of traditional silk industry of Thailand.
The opening ceremony of International Silk Festival “Pook Xiao” Tradition and Red Cross Fair 2018 on Thursday featured parades and exhibitions to show the advancement of the silk industry, along with charitable Red Cross Fair.
Khon Kaen province in the northeast first held the Festival in 1980. In this occasion, Deputy Governor of Khon Kaen Santi Laoboonsa-ngiam said in the opening ceremony that the Festival had been organized for 40 years and become international event in the past six years.
Silk producers from five other countries in the Mekong Sub-region – Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam – also take part in the Festival.
Santi hailed Khon Kaen’s unique silk garment pattern of Kan Kaen Koon.
Running until December 10, the Festival features silk-related folk customs, advancement of the silk industry and exhibitions of Mor Lam or traditional music of Thailand’s Northeast.
The Northeast of Thailand has been recognized of its high-quality silk with rich tradition of silk weaving and silk worm farming.
Throughout the popular Festival, parades, expositions and local performances have also been incorporated to entertain visitors. (TNA)
