Minister stresses UNESCO-King Hamad ICT Prize great success

Paris, Dec. 4 (BNA): The jury of this year’s edition of the UNESCO-King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education convenes at the UNESCO headquarters here today to assess the 139 out of the 753 competing works, presented by 73 countries all over the world. Education Minister, Dr. Majid bin Ali Al-Nuaimi, said that the increasing number of contenders confirms the international success of the prize which was launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to honour pioneering international projects in using ICTs to enhance learning, teaching and overall education performance. It also recognises projects and programmes that leverage innovative technologies to ensure education for excluded vulnerable groups. The minister added that the prestigious award had been adopted by UNESCO thanks to its outstanding success since its launch by HM the King in 2005. The award highlights projects that offer integrated ICT solutions, including the use of technology to overcome infrastructural obstacles, innovations in online learning, intelligent learning management systems, and others, The 2018 UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa Prize for the use of ICTs in Education highlights projects that use integrated solutions that blend commonly used technology with frontier ICT applications, such as breakthrough technology to overcome infrastructure barriers; solutions to reduce the cost of access; online learning innovations; intelligent learning management systems; machine translation; big data; and imagery technology. The award’s jury comprises experts from various continents.
