Embassy to the United States celebrates Bahrain’s National Day

New York, Dec.9(BNA): The Embassy of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the United States hosted a reception on the occasion of the Kingdom of Bahrain's national celebrations on 16 and 17 December, in commemoration of the establishment of the modern Bahraini state as an Arab and Muslim country founded by Ahmed Al-Fateh in 1783, the 47th anniversary of its full membership in the United Nations, and the 19th anniversary of His Majesty's accession to the throne. The Embassy also celebrated the centennial of formal education in the Kingdom of Bahrain in the Library of Congress. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States of America, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al-Khalifa, received a number of senior officials from the US administration, members of Congress, the military and diplomatic corps and a number of friends of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Washington, where they extended their wishes for further progress and prosperity to the Kingdom. The Bahraini Ambassador congratulated His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, and praised the Kingdom's achievements in promoting education and equipping Bahraini generations with the needed skills and knowledge. This comes as a result of the reform approach of His Majesty the King, and his constant care for education to follow up with the Kingdom’s pioneering achievements, beginning with the establishment of the first public school for boys in 1919 and the first public school for girls in 1928. The Ambassador also referred to the role of education in enhancing Bahraini-American relations of more than a century, including all military, political, economic and cultural fields. He concluded by stressing the keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to promote more opportunities for constructive cooperation to serve the common interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. During the event, the Ambassador presented two books to be added to the Library of Congress, the world's largest library. The first of which was the book of His Majesty the King, "First Light" on behalf of the Minister of Education, and the second book entitled "Portrait of a Nation" on behalf of the President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities. As part of the Embassy's celebration of the centennial of formal education in the Kingdom, the Ambassador also honored a number of American teachers in the Kingdom of Bahrain, who have taught for decades in Al Raja and Ibn Khuldoon and many other schools. A group of students from the Riffa Views School performed the national anthem of the Kingdom, and the Police Music Band also performed a number of local and American musical pieces.(MOFA)
