Al Thawadi: Lusail Stadium Design Marks Significant Milestone to 2022 World Cup

Doha, December 15 (QNA) - Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Secretary General Hassan Al Thawadi said that the State of Qatar has made great progress in preparing the infrastructure projects to host the 2022 World Cup, including the rail project, the highway projects, and Hamad International Airport, adding that all the stadiums will be ready by the end of 2020. Commenting on the Lusail Stadium's design launch, SC Secretary General, Hassan Al Thawadi, said: "With the reveal of the iconic Lusail Stadium design, today marks another significant milestone on the road to 2022. It has now been eight years since we won the rights to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup and we told the world to expect amazing. With this stunning design of our showpiece stadium, I am proud today to once again be delivering on that promise." Al Thawadi continued: "The new stadium is a nod to our past and a symbol of an exciting future. On the very same land as the home of our nations founder, it sits at the heart of a brand new city. Its a city for the future, and once the World Cup is over it will form a crucial part of the legacy of the tournament as it transforms to become the heart of a brand new community. We hope that one day, future generations look at Lusail Stadium as a source of inspiration, perseverance, and innovation that enabled the transformation of Lusail into the modern city it is." Al Thawadi added: "I look forward to many more iconic milestones over the coming four years as we continue our journey towards the first World Cup in the Arab world." Al Thawadi pointed out that the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani during the inauguration of Khalifa International Stadium, the first 2022 World Cup stadiums, when His Highness announced the opening of the stadium on behalf of each Qatari and Arab is still firmly in our minds, stressing that the 2022 World Cup Qatar is an opportunity for all the people of the Arab world to show their abilities and share the people of Qatar side by side in organizing an extraordinary tournament that reflects the true picture of the region and contributes to a positive change for all its peoples. SC Secretary-General stated that much has already been achieved in this field through a comprehensive effort of all state institutions, which has resulted in capacity building and localization of experiences in the sports industry, as well as addressing many of the challenges facing workers' care and launching regional initiatives, the latest of which was the volunteer program, in which about 300,000 people from the region and Asia wished to participate.
