COMMUNITY SERVICE NETWORKING NEEDED , SAYS SOCIAL ACTIVIST

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Community Service Networking (CSN) is needed in the country to enable it to cope with the problems of urbanisation, said social activist Lee Lam Thye.

He said CSN was essential as it could lead to the development of community
spirit to help one another and inculcate among the people the need for mutual
reliance and assistance to care for one another.

"As Malaysia becomes more and more urbanised there is a lack of the kampung
or village spirit of helping one another.

"CSN centres can serve as catalysts for organizing and mobilizing older
persons at the grassroots level to support programmes in this direction," Lee
said in a statement.

He added that society should not look at old folk as being helpless and
unable to contribute but bring them under the umbrella of CSN where they surely
could be assets to the nation.
