INTERNATIONAL MUGHAM FESTIVAL`S PARTICIPANTS JOIN NOWRUZ FESTIVITIES
Baku, March 21 (AzerTAc). Participants of “The World of Mugham” international festival have today joined Nowruz festivities at the Yanar Dag historic and culture reserve.
Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev, who accompanied the foreign guests, lit the bonfire, one of the major symbols of Nowruz.
The Minister then addressed the gathered. He said: “Every year our country welcomes the Nowruz holiday with new achievements. Preserving our national traditions is the sign of respect to our culture. For the first time we celebrate Nowruz at the Yanar Dag reserve. Very soon serious measures will be taken to fully restore the reserve.”
Mounir Bouchenaki, Director-General of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, praised Azerbaijan`s First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva`s contributions to preserving and promoting Azerbaijan`s cultural heritage.
“UNESCO backs all initiatives by Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva. We believe that holding such events in Baku will help to build new cultural bridges between various peoples, and at the same time, open wider opportunities for the Azerbaijani people to popularize their national traditions and culture” Mounir Bouchenaki said.
The festivities featured exhibitions of Azerbaijan`s national dishes and applied arts, and performance of athletes and musicians.
