AGU hosts training course for intern doctors

Manama, Dec. 26 (BNA): The Arabian Gulf University (AGU) hosted 40 intern doctors from King Hamad University Hospital (KHUH), as they participated in a two-day training course conducted in the Clinical Simulation and Medical Skills Centre at the university. Dr. Taysir Jaradah, Head of the Clinical Simulation and Medical Skills Centre, said the intern doctors were trained on 15 medical emergency cases. He explained that the cases included simulations of blockage of the upper airway and obstructed labour, in addition to other regular cases such as prenatal examination, normal vaginal delivery and surgical suture. The training also included dealing with nosebleed, urethral catheterisation for male patients, examination of the abdomen for sickle cell anemia patients and sterilisation. Dr. Jaradah said the course, which was divided onto five different stages, has earlier received five points in the medical training index of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA). He also said that the training course was supervised by 10 doctors, who are specialised in cardiology, anesthesia, surgery, intensive care and obstetrics and gynecology, adding that the doctors were from KHUH, Salmaniya Medical Complex and AGU’s Clinical Simulation and Medical Skills Centre. Professor Abdelhalim Deifalla, Dean of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in the university, honoured the participating intern doctors in the course. He praised Dr. Dalal Al Hassan, Director of the Simulation and Proficiency Centre in KHUH, for the playing an essential role that contributed to the success of the course, by providing the necessary equipment and resources. Prof. Deifalla said that such training courses are an addition to the improvement of medical and healthcare services in Bahrain’s hospitals, clinics and health centres. He added that the Clinical Simulation and Medical Skills Centre will organise similar courses in the near future, hosting more doctors from KHUH and Health Ministry’s doctors in general.
