Thai Cabinet nods for inter-agency database link for face detection of individuals
BANGKOK, January 2 (TNA) - The Thai Cabinet has approved an official digital link for the database of individuals' face detection and face recognition between relevant ministries to prevent and suppress problems in the fishery sector and to enhance security for business activities in the country.
Government Spokesman Putthipong Punnakant told journalists of the new move on Wednesday, stating that the Thai Cabinet gave the green light at its weekly meeting earlier in the day for the Marine Department, under the Ministry of Transport, to connect with the Ministry of Interior's central individual face detection and face recognition digital database, run by the Department of Provincial Administration, in order to prevent and crack down human trafficking-related issues and the problem of illegal fishing in the country.
The spokesman explained that the database facilitates the authorities' integrated identity verification of fishing workers and crew members by comparing the face detection and the face recognition of the individuals as part of the Thai government's regulation in good order of the domestic fishery sector.
Besides, the Thai Cabinet approved the similar digital database link between the Ministry of Interior's Department of Provincial Administration and the Ministry of Commerce's Department of Business Development to facilitate the e-registration of business firms or corporate bodies by the latter to enhance the security and efficiency for business activities in the country.
