Laos hires Filipino consultant to improve basic education

(KPL) The Ministry of Education (MOE) hired International Technology Management Corporation of the Philippines as consultant to its basic education development project.
This six-year governmental project, commencing in 2007 and ending in 2012, is being funded by the Asian Development Bank or ADB.
The project is being implemented in 20 districts in six provinces, Attapeu, Bokeo, Champassak, Khammouane, Luang Namtha and Savannakhet.
The signing contract between the two parties took place here on 13 March between the representatives of Ministry of Education and the International Technology Management Corporation and it was witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Lytou Baopao.
The aims of the project are to improve basic education, provide education to poor children in rural areas particularly females and ethnic children and to provide access to secondary education to as many people as possible.
Its other aims are to solve the overcrowding problem in classrooms, allocation of scholarships to poor children and raising the quality of basic education.
The project will also attempt to improve the learning and teaching methods in schools, on h ow best to allocate textbooks and education equipment to schools, teacher training in 17 provinces and teaching aids to secondary
schools.
