Malaysian Ringgit Opens Unchanged Against US Dollar

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) – The Malaysian ringgit was unchanged against the US dollar in early trade Monday amid mixed market sentiment, dealers said. At 9.30 am, the ringgit remained at Friday’s close of 4.0940/0980. A dealer said sentiment was influenced by the subdued greenback, following weak prospects for interest rate hikes this year, coupled with rising oil prices as the benchmark Brent crude increased slightly by 0.07 per cent to US$60.52 per barrel at the time of writing. Meanwhile, the ringgit traded mixed against other major currencies. It rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.0283/0320 from 3.0297/0338 recorded on Friday, and strengthened versus the euro to 4.6975/7025 from 4.7155/7217. The local unit depreciated vis-a-vis the Japanese yen to 3.7795/7843 from 3.7785/7832 and contracted against the British pound to 5.2641/2696 from 5.2203/2270. -- BERNAMA
