MoFA undersecretary receives Johns Hopkins delegation

Manama, Jan. 20 (BNA): Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Undersecretary Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa has received a delegation of scholars from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies visiting the Kingdom of Bahrain. The undersecretary highlighted the Kingdom’s experience in the field of supporting Bahraini women diplomats in the diplomatic and consular work. She added that this has led Bahraini women to occupy many important positions in the Ministry’s headquarters and diplomatic missions abroad. Dr. Shaikha Rana asserted that the Bahraini woman is an integral part of the Bahraini community including government and private sectors, noting that the Ministry, under the directives of Foreign Affairs Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, places great importance on developing women in the diplomatic and consular fields. She added that this was achieved through following a visionary plan for many years to come to represent and defend the Kingdom abroad. The Undersecretary noted that Bahraini women diplomats serving in the diplomatic corps exceed 30%, which reflects the values of the Ministry regarding the development of Bahraini women. The meeting reviewed experiences of female Bahraini diplomats and answered the delegation’s inquiries regarding the challenges they face concerning diplomatic work and equal opportunities. The delegation congratulated the MoFA undersecretary on celebrating 50 years of Bahraini diplomacy, wishing the Kingdom further progress and prosperity.
