NIHR receives IPU President

Manama, Jan. 20 (BNA): President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Maria Khouri stressed Bahrain’s resolve to go ahead with its unwavering approach to protect human rights thanks to the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to promote the culture of human rights in the kingdom. The NIHR President was speaking as she received President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Gabriela Cuevas Barron, in the presence of members of the Board of Commissioners and the Secretary General. She praised the significant role of IPU in promoting human rights in the region and the whole world. She presented an overview about NIHR, its goals, specialties and role in handling human rights issues in Bahrain and projecting the kingdom’s real image in international gatherings. The IPU President lauded the key role of NIHR in tackling human rights issues, expressing sincerest thanks and appreciation for the gracious welcome and hospitality and for replying to all queries, wishing Bahrain more progress and prosperity.
