Bahrain's renewable energy plan highlighted

Manama, Jan. 21 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza has received United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bahrain Amin Al-Sharqawi who congratulated the minister on the work plan of the Sustainable Energy Unit within the Government Action Plan (GAP2019-2022). The minister said that energy efficiency and renewable energy has the top priority in the government plan and this gives clear indication of the keen interest of Bahrain's leadership encouraging the use of renewable and clean energy and striving for comprehensive development while achieving national goals. This includes five percent (5%) of the total energy use to become renewable by 2025. Al-Sharqawi said that development of renewable energy and energy efficiency are the result of the efforts of the National Committee to follow up and implement the National Plan for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, headed by the minister, and has begun to yield fruit by attracting new ideas and projects in the fields of sustainable energy. He said the United Nations would continue to support the work of the National Committee and the Sustainable Energy Unit through its role as an observer and provide specialised expertise in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy.
