New BJA board holds first meeting

Manama, Jan. 27(BNA): Rashid Al-Hamer has been elected unopposed as Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) Vice President. Abdulrahman Al-Medfaa and Al-Harith Busaibae take over respectively as Secretary-General; Treasurer and Chairman of the Events Committee.
The newly-elected BJA board held its first meeting today and distributed the administrative positions. Sakina Al-Tawash and Mohammed Bahr will chair respectively the Women and Membership Committees. Hassan Al-Sitri will chair the Professional Development Committee while Sarra Najeeb takes over as head of the Media Committee. Zahraa Habib will chair the Liberties and International Organisations Committee.
The new-look panel extended thanks to Al-Watan editor-in-chief Youssef Al-Binkhalil and to all those who took part in the BJA board elections, pledging to cooperate with the competent authorities to address key issues which include salaries, journalists’ fund, housing project and the BJA headquarters.
The board also thanked outgoing BJA President Al-Bilad Editor-in-Chief Moanes Al-Mardi and former members for their dedicated efforts which left an imprint on the history of the association. The new-look board called on BJA members to attend a gathering on Tuesday from 5 pm till 8 pm. New subcommittees will be announced.
