PROSECUTION DEMANDS 7-20 YEARS FOR SEVEN ACCUSED OF TERRORISM

Jakarta, Mar 24 (ANTARA) - Seven men on trial in the South Jakarta District Court on terrorism charges heard the prosecution demand prison terms ranging between seven and 20 years for them here Tuesday.

Fajar Taslim alias Muhammad Hasan, a member of the so-called Palembang Terror Group, according to the prosecution, deserved 20 years. For Ali Mashuri alias Zuber and Wahyudi alias Yudi, members of the same group, the prosecution demanded 14 years and 15 years respectively.

In the same court, the prosecution also read out sentencing pleas on four other men accused of terrorism. It asked 15 years for Abdurrohman Taib alias Musa as well as for Ki Agus Muhammad Tono, eight years for Anis Sugandi alias Abudllah Hussair and seven years for Sukarso Abdilah alias Abdurrohman.

The prosecution said all of the defendants had proven guilty of having -- to different extents -- committed, participated or helped in the commission of acts punishable under the country's laws on terrorism.
The only mitigating circumstances were that the defendants had behaved well during the trials, had never been convicted before, and they expressed remorse for their acts, the prosecution said.

After listening to the prosecution's arguments, the presiding judges adjourned the court sessions until next Tuesday (March 31) when the defendants or their lawyers would present their defense pleas.
