NCC chief discusses media cooperation

Dubai, Feb. 17(BNA): National Communication Centre (NCC) Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mannai attended the World Government Summit, recently held in Dubai, the UAE, on February 10-12. Held under the patronage of the UAE Vice President, Deputy Premier and Dubai Ruler His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the summit attracted more than 4000 participants, decision-makers and experts from over 150 countries. On the sidelines of the summit, Al-Mannai met UAE National Media Council Director-General and discussed cooperation, stressing the importance of exchanging expertise and visions. The NCC chief also met Dubai Government Media Office director-general Mona Ghanim Al-Merri and discussed means of building bridges of communication and expanding aspects future cooperation to keep up with the goals of comprehensive development in the two brotherly countries. He discussed with Minister of State for Media Affairs, Official Spokesperson of the Jordanian Government Jumana Ghunaimat joint cooperation in the sectors of information and communication too reflect official stances and unify the media discourse in light of media changes and growing leverage of the social media. They stressed the crucial importance of bolstering the role of the Government media so as to strengthen trust in the official media discourse, debunk rumours and obtain news from official sources towards maintaining countries’ security and stability. Al-Mannai held a side meeting with Egyptian National Media Authority President Hussain Zain, on the sidelines of their participation in the World Government Summit and discussed media cooperation, focusing on latest development in the information sector. The two sides stressed the importance of exchanging official visits, holding training workshops and courses, facilitating reporters’ work and befitting from successful practices to elaborate the Governmental media priorities. On the sidelines of the World Government Summit, (NCC) Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Mohammed Al-Mannai signed the "News Agencies Tolerance Charter" which was issued by the representatives of news agencies participating in the World Government Summit 2019, (WGS),. The participants in the summit asserted that the signing of the "News Agencies Tolerance Charter" was in line with their recognition of the importance of the themes of the WGS, and the need to raise global awareness on them, as well as with their belief in the importance and role of the media message. The signing was also in recognition of their responsibilities and duties towards society and its institutions and individuals, they added.The Charter emphasises the paramount importance of WGS 2019, and the main themes on its agenda. The Charter highlighted the importance of promoting the tolerance principles to achieve peaceful co-existence among peoples regardless of their differences, achieve sustainable development, and contribute to building tolerance among communities, based on the cultural and religious tolerance principles. Under the Charter, the signatories shall exchange news, images, video footage or any relevant materials related to the issue of tolerance. The Charter also aims to consolidate tolerance-related media content, and to highlight global success stories in serving humanity through the positive impact of tolerance in protecting peoples against hatred, fanaticism and terrorism. The global summit was also an opportunity for the NCC chief to meet local, regional and international media personalities, representatives of the civil society, experts and social media influencers and discussed latest media developments and means of strengthening the communication sector. Al-Mannai underscored the crucial role played by the media in building nations and shaping generations, based on the principles of citizenship, integrity, good governance, rule of the law and democratic work. He stressed the crucial role of the professional media in reporting true facts and revealing truths, heeding impartiality, accuracy and credibility that stem from the spirit of national responsibility, belonging and citizenship. He lauded the outstanding organization of the World Government Summit (WGS-2019), hailing UAE landmark strides in hosting global events and high-profile conferences.
