HM King receives BJA Board of Directors

Manama, Feb. 17 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa paid tribute to the achievements of the Bahraini journalism and its pioneering role throughout its march in the service of society, supporting the comprehensive development process and strengthening patriotism, expressing appreciation of its credibility and professionalism in covering events, defending the nation’s interests, security, stability and documenting development achievements. HM the King today at the Safriya Palace received Board members of Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) led by President Ahdeya Ahmed marking the election of the new BJA board of directors. HM the King lauded the Bahraini press, which has always reflected the Bahraini people’s high-level of awareness and education, who are a source of pride to all. HM the King congratulated the newly elected president and board members on winning the BJA’s elections, wishing them success in achieving the set goals and upgrading the journalistic work. HM the King congratulated Ahdeya Ahmed once again on winning the BJA’s presidency to be the first Bahraini woman to occupy the post. HM the King highlighted the Bahraini women’s achievements in various fields, chiefly journalism and media, welcoming their leadership aptitudes and bringing accomplishments. HM the King extended his greetings to all journalists and columnists of local newspapers and his appreciation of their huge roles in the service of the homeland and citizens. Minister of Information Affairs, Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi, hailed the royal directives and visions they listened to during the meeting, saying the HM the King’s constant care for the media and press sector is a beacon that illuminates the path forward in the service of this vital sector. The Information Minister said the media and press sector in Bahrain has witnessed a quantum leap and accelerated development thanks to the continuous royal care and support for journalists. He pointed out the royal directives to provide a proper atmosphere for the national press to play its responsible role in enlightening the community and raising its awareness of the national issues to reflect the freedom and transparency seen by various fields. The Minister added that the development of the media sector is a reflection of the royal reforms that established democracy, the respect for human rights and responsible freedom of opinion and expression, noting the issuance of 43 daily, weekly and monthly newspapers and 528 media and artistic production companies. The Minister stressed the national press would always be sincerely committed to implement the royal directives and to develop them to serve the national interests under the leadership of HM the King. The BJA’s President expressed utmost gratitude for HM the King’s directives, welcoming the unlimited royal support for journalists, which has greatly contributed to the progress of the Bahraini journalism.
