'National Action Charter pioneering human rights, freedoms document'

Manama, Feb. 23 (BNA): President of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission (LLOC), Chancellor Nawaf Abdulla Hamza, said that the National Action Charter (NAC) is a pioneering document, whose principles emanate from the Islamic civilisational principles. It is also a human rights document in which Bahrainis placed the basic principles of rights and freedoms, in accordance with the best experiences and deep-rooted civilisational values, he added. Chancellor Hamza asserted that NAC is a high-level legal document on which the royal and popular will agreed, and therefore all legal amendments and legislation are consistent with its provisions. He lauded the renaissance witnessed by the kingdom since NAC inception and during the Reform Era of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa in the fields of advanced national legislation and law. In an interview with the Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Chancellor Hamza highlighted the the giant leap witnessed by LLOP since the inception of the NAC in 2001 and the amended Constitution of 2002. He affirmed that NAC reflects HM the King’s enlightened and forward-looking vision, noting that HM King Hamad offered his people an advanced document to serve as a reference in rights, liberties and popular participation in governance. He stressed that NAC principles were embedded in the 2002 Constitution, and therefore all amendments that have been made over the past 18 years are consistent with NAC. He indicated that the laws and legislation issued during HM the King’s prosperous era have consolidated human rights and freedoms in the kingdom, and strengthened the pillars of the state of law and institutions. LLOC chief said that Bahrain’s pioneering democratic experience has contributed to creating modern laws that meet the needs and expectations of the citizens, noting that the opinions of the bicameral National Assembly necessarily reflect those of the Bahraini people. He concluded by stressing that the NAC had reflected the common will of HM the King and the people, and achieved the best human principles that enable the Bahraini citizens to reach the highest levels in various fields, commensurate with their great history.
