BEBC Malaysia Keen to Work With UMS to Promote Tourism

KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Business Council (BEBC) Malaysia says it is keen to work with the Borneo Tourism Research Centre (BTRC) of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS, a Malaysian public university) to promote tourism within the BIMP-EAGA sub-region. BEBC Malaysia in a statement here Sunday said BEBC Malaysia has held preliminary discussions with BTRC on spearheading tourism in the sub-region. The BEBC Malaysia team, comprising chairman Roselan Johar Mohamed, executive secretary Junzuenn Basalan, BEBC Sabah Tourism cluster head Ben Golimbi and tour operators Samson Shak of Weston Wildlive and Leslie Lau of Peak Tours, met with BTRC director Prof Dr Jennifer Chan on Saturday. Issues discussed included collaboration between BTRC and BEBC Malaysia on talks, seminars, conferences, training courses and publications, as proposed by Chan. Golimbi meanwhile expressed interest in co-organising an international sustainable tourism conference. Chan said BTRC aims to become a preferred tourism research centre within Malaysia as well as a tourism centre of excellence generating revenue through training courses and tourism packages. -- BERNAMA
