Alba becomes a member of Aluminum Stewardship Initiative

Manama, Feb. 25(BNA): (Alba), soon to become the largest smelter in the world, underlined its evolution to a more sustainable future by joining the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) in February 2019. Alba has become a Production and Transformation member of the ASI due to its compliance with the latest ISO certification, its implementation of International Finance Corporation requirements, for having a high performance Safety and Health records and for demonstrating good initiatives to protect the environment. This much-awaited membership brings us closer towards attaining stricter compliance with international standards and practices throughout the aluminum value chain. On this occasion, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, said: "Joining the ASI is a great stride for Alba but as we have a rigorous audit process ahead of us, we need to be extremely prepared as the only easy day was yesterday. To become more sustainable, we must continue to take extreme ownership in everything we do, and to streamline our processes and procedures to be aligned with the ASI requirements." The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standards setting and certification organisation. It is the result of producers, users and stakeholders in the aluminum value chain coming together with a commitment to maximising the contribution of aluminum to a sustainable society.
