Constitutional Court to Rule on Thai Raksa Chart Party on March 7

BANGKOK, Feb 27 (TNA) - Thailand’s Constitutional Court will rule on the dissolution case against Thai Raksa Chart Party on March 7. The Charter Court on Wednesday considered the Election Commission’s (EC) request to dissolve the Thai Raksa Chart Party for nominating a member of a royal family as its prime ministerial candidate that is deemed unconstitutional. The Thai Raksa Chart Party on February 8 nominated Princess Ubolratana, King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s elder sister, as its sole candidate for prime minister. Although the nomination was dropped, a few days later, the EC asked the Constitution Court to disband the Party. The Court’s judges held a meeting Wednesday afternoon, discussing the EC’s request, the Party’s accounts and whether it would order further investigation. No party leaders showed up at the Court except a former party executive Rungrueng Pitayasiri, who resigned after the controversial nomination, appeared at the Court’s building. The Court later issued a statement setting the date to announce its ruling on March 7. The statement also states that no further hearing or evidence is needed. (TNA)
