Terror group abettor sentenced to life

Manama, Feb. 28 (BNA): The High Criminal Court today issued a life sentence to a Bahraini convicted of storage and possession of contraband weapons and ammunition for terrorist purposes and abetting fugitives who had committed terrorist crimes punishable by death or incarceration. He is fined BD500 and his nationality revoked by the court which also ordered confiscation of seized materials, Terror Crime Chief Prosecutor Ahmed Al Hammadi said. Investigations uncovered that the defendant concealed several fugitives who were members of an armed terrorist group that killed a policeman and facilitated the escape of inmates in the Jau reformatory’s jailbreak. The Public Prosecution presented charges, statements and confessions as well as technical evidences proving the case. The defendant received all the legal sureties as he appeared before the High Criminal Court in presence of his attorney who submitted his defence arguments. As per the Bahraini judiciary system, the defendant has the right to appeal his sentence before the Court of Appeals and the Court of Cassation within the legally-prescribed duration.
