Assistant Foreign Minister meets with High Commissioner for Human Rights

Geneva, Feb. 28 (BNA): Assistant Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al-Doseri, met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet at her office at the UN headquarters in Geneva.
During the meeting, the Assistant Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, extending their congratulations for her appointment as High Commissioner for Human Rights, and wishing her further progress and prosperity in her new position.
The Assistant Foreign Minister stressed keenness of the Kingdom of Bahrain to support all efforts of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in accordance with a framework of transparency, credibility and objectivity in order to achieve common goals and uphold the human values of human rights at all levels. He also added that the Kingdom of Bahrain appreciates its partnership with the international community, represented by the United Nations, to serve the issues of security, peace and development. He underscored the kingdom's keenness on promoting respect and protection of human beings out of belief in the interconnectedness of those issues with comprehensive human development.
The Assistant Foreign Minister discussed bilateral cooperation and ways to benefit from the technical assistance, capacity-building and training programmes offered by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and to assist in the preparation of a national human rights plan.
A number of issues of common concern were also discussed in the meeting. (MOFA)
