Thailand to observe Int'l Woman’s Day

BANGKOK, March 4 (TNA) - As previous years, the Thai government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, will observe the International Woman’s Day 2019, which falls on March 8, by organizing an official event under the theme of "empowering women and girls towards the healthy, firm and sustainable national development in the long run. Permanent Secretary for Social Development and Human Security Paramethi Wimonsiri told a press conference on Monday at the event to be held at the IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok, a total of 45 prizes in 15 areas will, among other activities, be presented to selected women, girls and agencies in honor of their outstanding performances in the development of female potential. "The upcoming event is aimed to create the public awareness on the participation by women in the national development towards the more equal and peaceful Thai society in the future", the senior official said. According to the senior official, Thailand has observed the International Woman’s Day since 1989 to promote the public recognition of the Thai women's rights and potential in line with international principles.
