Bahrain's advanced labour legislations praised

Manama, Mar. 11 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan received Ambassador of India to Bahrain Alok Kumar Sinha. They reviewed the cooperation especially in the labour fields and mututal exchange of successful experiences between the two countries pertaining to labour legislation to develop the labour market and boost productivity in the private sector. The minister affirmed Bahrain’s keenness on the provision of all sureties to ensure the rights of workers and the ideal workplace environment. He cited the Wages Protection System which obliges employers in the private sector to transfer the salaries of their employees into their bank accounts instead of cash disbursement that helps to document and confirm the payroll transaction and avoid the problem of deferred wages beyond their prescribed date. The ambassador praised the Labour Ministry’s efforts for protection of workers’ rights, noting the legal protection given to the Indian expatriate community thanks to Bahrain’s advanced national legislations in accordance with the international labour standards. He admired the system of remittance of workers’ wages through the banks obliging employers to deposit the monthly salaries into the bank accounts of the workers and to avoid any delay. He also praised the tripartite employment contract signed by domestic workers (and equivalents thereof) besides the employer and the relevant manpower agency to protect workers’ rights and prevent any violation by any of the contractual parties.
