Sayaboury’s export decreased by 12 per cent

(KPL) Sayaboury province brought in just over US$ 19 million from its export in the first six months of this fiscal year, decreased by 12 per cent from the same period last year. Maize made up US$ 14.2 million of the entire revenues from agriculture produce exported in the first six months.
The export was reduced due to the falling prices of the goods and produce it has exported, said Head of Industry and Commerce Service of Sayaboury province, Mr. Somdy Souksavath. “The industry and commerce sector in the province was affected by the global financial crisis, oil price fluctuation and declining prices of agricultural produce.”
The export of maize to neighbouring countries has been declined dramatically compared to last year. As facing the declining prices around 200,000 tones of maize have been stored in warehouses in the province. However, the province plans to have its stored maize exported in the last six months of the fiscal year bringing in US$ 25.4 million.
