Tourism minister sees unfair garbage in Bang Kachao
SAMUT PRAKAN, March 14 (TNA) – Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak Kowsurat led about 300 local residents to collect garbage in Bang Kachao, saying the downstream community unfairly received garbage dumped elsewhere.
Mr Weerasak together with local community leaders and volunteers collected garbage at the Khung Bang Kachao area standing in the latter part of the Chao Phraya river. The green tourism area received plenty of garbage that flowed from upstream sections of the river.
The group led by the minister travelled on boats from Wat Bang Nam Phueng Nok and found that garbage in Khung Bang Kachao did not come from local residents.
The minister said that the government and the civil sector were joining forces to clean tourist destinations in communities to promote tourism. He hoped the project would encourage general people not to dump garbage in waterways so that tourist attractions along waterways could be conserved.
On the occasion, Mr Weerasak also inspected the Khlong Phae canal that will be developed into a new tourist attraction within two years. (TNA)
