Iran exports from South Pars gas fields growing despite US bans
Tehran, March 16, IRNA – Iran’s export of gas condensate from South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf region has witnessed 15 percent increase in January and February 2019 compared with similar period last year, a senior Iranian official in economic affairs said on Saturday.
Despite the US sanctions and restrictions, Iran's South Pars Gas Field which is the world’s largest gas field has been experiencing growth in its exports, said Ahmad Pourheidar, Director General of the customs department of Pars Special Economic Zone.
Pourheidar said the export of gas condensate from South Pars has valued at 553.6 million dollars in Jan-Feb 2018, while the figure reached 745.1 during the same period in 2019 showing 15 percent increase.
The South Pars products are mainly being exported to United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, Italy, France, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Poland and Norway, the official said.
South Pars, known as North Dome in Qatar, is the world’s largest gas field with an area of 9,700 square kilometers which is shared between Iran and the Persian Gulf Arab state.
US President Donald Trump pulled out Washington from the Iran Deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in May, 2018, calling it the worst deal ever reached.
Despite the world criticism over US unilateralism and anti-Iran measures, Trump re-imposed anti-Iran sanctions in November, 2018.
