HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Award for Sustainable Development goals praised

Geneva, Mar. 18 (BNA): Shaikh Hussam bin Isa Al Khalifa, President of HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa Award for Sustainable Development, today met WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in Geneva.
Shaikh Hussam bin Isa conveyed greeting of HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and gave a brief on Bahrain’s progress in the field of sustainable development.
Shaikh Hussam bin Isa said the government has worked in accordance with a comprehensive vision and has made a good progress in terms of achieving the SDGs. It has staged a national plan 2016-2025 in the context of sustainable development.
He pointed out that the award aims to promote efforts and goals of international organization, NGOs and individuals to uplift humanitarian situations around the world. He highlighted the close cooperation between the award and the United Nations and its agencies aimed at serving sustainable development topics, including health, noting that the last personality to win the award was the UN former Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Shaikh Hussam bin Isa invited the WHO Director-General to participate in Bahrain’s annual forum, praising the WHO’s effort to upgrade general health around the world.
The WHO Director-General commended the interest of Bahrain’s government in reinforcing cooperation with the WHO to achieve its goals to serve people of the world, lauding HRH the Prime Minister efforts to develop all sectors.
He highlighted the role of the award in reflecting Bahrain’s keenness to support the international efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.
Ambassador Dr. Yusuf AbdulKarim Bucheeri, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the UN, was present.
