BANGKOK, March 24 (TNA) – Leaders and key figures of major political parties cast their votes at their respective polling stations Sunday morning. Pheu Thai Party’s prime minister candidate Sudarat Keyuraphan also commented on high voter enthusiasm after she cast her vote at a Chatuchak district’s polling station. She urged the Election Commission to ensure free and fair election. Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said he wanted to see high turnout and orderly voting after he cast his vote at a polling station in Bangkok’s Constituency 4 where many voters arrived before the station was opened at 8 am. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Future Forward Party, was the first voter to cast ballot at his polling station for Bangkok’s Constituency 20. He and his wife arrived 15 minutes before the station was opened. Chatchart Sithiphan, nominated as Pheu Thai’s prime minister candidate along with Sudarat, rode his electric scooter to vote at a school in Bangkok’s Ekamai area. He praised officials for smooth voting process. Mr Chatchart said he was happy to see young voters’ active engagement in politics during the campaign. The election is held under a new constitution for the first time after 2014 military coup. There are about seven million first-time voters who could lead to a significant change in Thailand’s political landscape. (TNA)
