Latest Matta Fair Breaks Visitor Record, Achieves RM220 Mln Sales

KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair held from March 15 to 17 attracted 113,685 visitors, the highest number since the association began organising fairs in 1991. The latest fair recorded an estimated total sales value of RM220 million, up from the RM210 million sales at the previous MATTA Fair September 2018, which was attended by 93,084 visitors, the association said. MATTA president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said the large number of visitors strengthened the position of the MATTA Fair as the country's largest consumer travel fair. “The three-day fair registered a 22 per cent rise in visitors compared to the previous fair. It was amazing to see the continuous queues at the ticketing counters despite economic uncertainties due to factors such as Brexit and the US-China trade war,” he said in a statement Monday. Tan said this time, consumers were more engaged with the MATTA Fair experiences by buying holiday packages at the fair instead of doing it online. “While the Sales and Services Tax mechanism is being fine-tuned by the authorities, many agents are absorbing the SST so that customers can still buy at competitive prices,” he said. The next MATTA Fair will be held at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur, on Sept 6-8. -- BERNAMA
