Speaker: Golan Heights occupied Arab, Syrian lands

Manama, Mar. 27 (BNA): Representatives Council Speaker Fawzia bint Abdullah Zainal underlined Bahrain's unwavering stance in considering the Golan Heights as occupied Arab and Syrian lands by Israel since June 1967. She added the US statement recognising sovereignty of Israel over the Golan Heights is in breach of international laws and resolutions, including mainly the UN Security Council resolution 497 / 1981 which called on Israel to annul the annexation of the Golan Heights and considered its resolutions in the Golan Heights null and void. The Speaker described the US move as regretful and likely to exacerbate the situation in the region by hampering the efforts to achieve a just, permanent and comprehensive peace in the region. She called to boost Arab, regional and international parliamentary action asserting that the Golan Heights are occupied Syrian and Arab lands and that the US' statement will not change their legal status.
