POLICY OF ENGLISH USAGE FOR SCIENCE, MATHS TO BE BROUGHT TO NEW CABINET
KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- Education Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the study findings on the policy of teaching and learning Science and Mathematics would be brought before the new Cabinet.
He said his ministry had distributed copies of the memorandum on the matter
to all the ministries concerned to give their comments before the end of this
month after which it would be brought to the Cabinet for discussion.
"Considering that we will have a new prime minister, we will therefore wait
for the new Cabinet line-up to be announced by Najib Tun Razak," he
told reporters here Saturday, the last day of the United Malays National
Organization (Umno) General Assembly 2008.
While thanking the party delegates who debated on the policy (of using
English in teaching Science and Maths), Hishammuddin said: "Thank God, it is
clear that various opinions have emerged after we opened the issue for all
concerned quarters to discuss and debate on.
"If we had made our stand on the matter early (last year), Umno members
would not have been able to convey their opinions on it.
"From the party delegates' views heard today (at the Umno general assembly)
on the issue, I believe more studies will be carried out so that it will not
become polemic or politicised.
"And perhaps we can make the most appropriate decision based on the views of
all concerned parties for the sake of our children's future," he said.
