Labour Minister receives ILO official

Manama, Apr.5 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan received International Labour Organisation (ILO) official for the Arab Region Nidham Qahoosh and discussed cooperation and ways of promoting tripartite dialogue to serve national economic development. The minister outlined tangible developments under the reform process, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. He highlighted the recent amendments which were incorporated in Law 36 for 2012 on the private sector labour. The amendments criminalize secxual harassment in at work sites, stipulate legal penalties and set guidelines to protect workers’ wages which shall be deposited with the accredited banks, as part of string of legislations aimed at promoting human rights. He underlined Bahrain’s constant review of national legislations in all labour laws, to bring them in line with the ILO standards and protect labour rights towards achieving social justice. The ILO official commended Bahrain’s pioneering approach in developing the labour law and encouraging trade union work aimed at protecting the rights of all production parties. He highlighted the positive role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain with the ILO board, which would optimize benefit from outstanding practices to consolidate the work environment and protect the rights of all production parties in compliance with international standards.
