Update - DAM BURST DEATH TOLL RISES TO 98

Tangerang, March 30 (ANTARA) - The death toll in last Friday's Situ Gintung dam burst in the Cireundeu area in southwest Jakarta rose to 98 late Sunday.

The latest data was collected at 7 pm local time on Sunday, Rahmat, a command post coordinator, said.
Rescuers found a four-year-old Rifa, the 98th dead victim, on a river bank, he said.
Earlier, on Sunday, rescuers discovered the body of Rizki (17) under debris behind the University of Muhammadiyah campus.
In total, they found six dead bodies on Sunday, he said.
South Tangerang Mayor H Soleh said earlier some 102 people had gone missing, 368 others had been displaced, and 319 buildings were destroyed after the Situ Gintung sluice gate and embankment collapsed.
The dam burst which followed heavy rains last Thursday night had obliterated a 255-meter-long section of the dam, allowing water from its 20-hectare lake to rush out and inundate hundreds of houses in its immediate proximity.
The burst occurred at around 2 am local time last Friday, and the first volumes of the unleashed water swept away tens of houses and many of people at a time when they were still sound asleep.
The Situ Gintung dam complex covered a total area of 21 hectares and had a capacity to hold 21 million cubic meters of water.
The dam was built as a water reservoir by the Dutch colonial administration back in 1930.
Manwhile, chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nurwahid asked political parties to help dam burst victims without hesitation.
He said negative news saying that the political parties were using the disaster's victims for political campaigns, should be ignored as long as they really wanted to help the victims sincerely.
