Bahrain to mark Arab Deaf Week

Manama, Apr.19 (BNA): Bahrain will mark late this month (Last week of April 2019) the 44th Arab Deaf Week.
The pan-Arab Deaf Week was first launched in 1974 following the recommendations of the Arab Federation for the Deaf to enhance social awarness of the basic rights of this category of people
Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan said the 2019 edition will be held this year under the theme “Recruiting the Deaf is a Community Responsibility”.
He underlined the strides achieved in the Kingdom of Bahrain to care for people with physical disabilities, including the death, to support them and promote their rehabilitation, empowerment, training and employement.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Development has established the “You Are Not” Centre in 2007 to communicate with businessmen to find jobs for the people with physical disabilities in the private, including the the hearing-impaired ones.
The ministry has so far found jobs for 263 people with hearing-impairement ever since the “You Are Not” Centre in 2007 – 29 of whom were recruited in the private sector in 2018.
A group of people with hearing impairement have also joined the productive families projects.
The Ministry of Labour and Social Development provides allowances to a total of 1873 people suffering from hearing impairement.
