'Promosi Hebat Macao' Programme Targets More Muslim Tourists From Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA, April 29 (Bernama) -- The ‘Promosi Hebat Macao’ programme organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) at the IOI City Mall here from April 25 to 29, targets to draw more Muslim tourists from Malaysia to visit Macao. MGTO is now highlighting the other aspects including Muslim-friendly elements of Macao to meet the needs of this group (Muslim tourists). Mitra Tours & Travel research and development officer, Siti Sara Salmi said there were still many Muslims in this country who were not aware of Macao being a Muslim-friendly tourist destination. “Most Muslim tourists place emphasis on food when they go abroad, not knowing that there are about 10 restaurants near the tourist spots in Macao that serve halal food including Chinese, Indian and Indonesian cuisine. “Hence, they should not be unduly worried about visiting Macao as halal food is available there,” she added. The Macao tourism promotion programme here has brought together four travel agencies, namely Mitra Tours & Travel, Airlink Travel & Tour Sdn Bhd, YL Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd and Prestige Vacation. Visitors to Macao will be exposed to the local culture such as through the Portuguese costume showcase and renowned Portuguese traditional egg tarts as the Portuguese ruled Macao for 442 years before returning it to China. -- BERNAMA
