36 STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FROM JAPAN
KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 (Bernama) -- Thirty-six Malaysian students today
received scholarships worth about RM6 million from the Japanese Government to
pursue first degree and post-graduate degree courses in Japan.
Japan Information Services director Yumiko Fujiwara said, students pursuing
their first degree will each receive a RM240,000 scholarship for a five-year
academic period.
Post-graduate students will receive RM150,000 each for the two-year session.
"This means a degree student will receive RM4,000 per month and a
post-graduate student will receive RM5,000 monthly," he told reporters at the
scholarship presentation ceremony by Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Masahiko
Horie at the embassy here.
Fujiwara said 26 out of the 36 students who received scholarships would
leave for Japan tomorrow night, and the rest, in October.
In another development, Yumiko said the Japanese and Malaysian governments
currently worked together to create the Malaysia-Japan International University
of Technology in Beranang, Selangor.
The university is expected to begin its academic session in July.
