NAJIB WANTS TO UNDERSTAND ASPIRATIONS OF ALL ETHNIC GROUPS

KUALA LUMPUR, March 31(Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said,
as a member of the government's administration, he wanted to understand the
aspirations of all communities in the country.

Najib, who will take over as Prime Minister soon, said it was important to
understand this to enable him to more appreciate their hopes and needs.

He said this to reporters after making a visit to the head office of Sin
Chew Daily, a Chinese daily near here Tuesday.

Najib spent about 90 minutes meeting senior editors of the newspaper group
to hear views and exchange ideas on matters concerning the Chinese community.

Commenting on the visit, Najib said rapport with media practitioners, like
the Sin Chew group, which has the largest circulation of newspapers in Mandarin
in the country, was important to enable him to better understand what the
Chinese hoped for their community.

"I understand some of their concerns and what they expect of me in the near
future," he said.

Besides enabling him to establish rapport with the top officials of the
group, he said the visit also gave him an opportunity to explain to them various
matters including the One Malaysian Concept.

Asked if this visit was a signal that the Printing Presses and Publications
Act 1984 might be reviewed, Najib said a decision on this would be made after he
took over the government.
