Public Security chief chairs committee meeting

Manama, May 16 (BNA): Chief of Public Security, Major-General Tariq Al Hassan chaired the extraordinary meeting of the National Disaster Management Committee. The meeting was part of the directives of the Interior Minister and Chairman of the Civil Defence Council to review the security and preparedness concerning the dangerous regional developments that could affect security and stability. Representatives of ministries and concerned authorities attended the meeting. The Chief welcomed the members in the meeting that aimed to evaluate the readiness of all concerned bodies in cooperation with the private sector to deal with the emerging regional situations and take the required procedures within the work of the committee to protect citizens and residents and protect national achievements and establishments from all threats. He highlighted the importance to ensure the readiness of the national emergency plan to tackle all unusual situations and the capability of fast recovery of any incident through the pre-setting plans that are reviewed, updated and developed continuously, along with national exercises to enhance capabilities and competencies of concerned organisations in dealing with crisis and disasters. The committee was briefed on the readiness levels and the implemented plans by various organisations. The committee ensured the availability of enough stocks of food, water and medicines by all ministries and concerned organisations, especially with the availability of the necessary mechanisms and readiness to deal with any emergency. The plans and alternative plans were highlighted and the requirements to protect environment security. The Chief said that the committee would observe any changes and the availability of the required services and work to set alternative plans in case there would be any hinder stopping the implementation of the main plans. Awareness plans of general safety instructions for the public would be carried out at various locations. He said that the National Disaster Management Centre works to follow up latest happenings and coordinate efforts, in addition, to increase the preparedness level at the Operations Directorate and the Civil Defence Centres to receive cases and offer assistance to citizens and residents.
