University of Bahrain; UNEP sign key deal

Manama, May 20 (BNA): The University of Bahrain (UoB) has today signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEF). UoB President Dr. Riyadh Youssef Hamza sealed the deal with Acting Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Joyce Msuya, in the presence of UNEP regional director for West Asia Sami Dimassi. The University of Bahrain thus becomes the first West Asia region to sign this agreement which aims to support the youth strategy in the field of education. The university joined the Youth and Education Alliance (YEA), an initiative which aspires to foster a new generation of leaders to be properly equipped to address the environmental challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Under the deal, UNEP West Asia will provide strategic support to youth initiatives, as part of the UoB Future Leaders Programme, that aims highlight issues related to the environment, sustainable development and youth initiatives.
