United Nations World Food Programme opens new office for southern province of Laos
(KPL) The United Nations World Food Programme (WPF) opened on 25 March a new office in Saravane province for southern provinces of Laos.
Among the guest at the opening ceremony were Mr. Khamboun Douangpanya, Governor of Saravane province, Mrs. Kharin Manente, Director of the WPF in Vientiane and high ranking officials concern from all departments in the province.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mrs. Kharin Manente highlighted an activities made by her organization in Laos, especially in the Saravane province. She said that the world food program has two key projects: Food for Work Project commenced since 2001 and will be finished by the end of 2009; and Nutrition Programme which is implemented in Saravane province in 2008 and will be completed by 2010.
Today, the children nutrition programme is implementing in four districts of Saravane province: Lau-ngam, Toumlane, Ta-oy and Samuoy with 82 schools.
