Intelligent Transportation Systems Forum Focuses on Latest Technologies in Qatar and South Korea

Doha, June 24 (QNA) - The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Forum focused on latest technologies and projects relation to ITS om Qatar and South Korea as well as partnerships and joint cooperation aspects between both countries in this field. Hosted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) in collaboration with the Korean Trade Investment Agency (KOTRA), the forum offered the opportunity for as many as 13 South Korean companies specializing in ITS to showcase their technologies and expertise with their Qatari Counterparts and discuss opportunities for partnerships and collaborations during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond. The Forum agenda included a G2G meeting between HE Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development, MOTC Reem Al Mansoori and HE Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the State of Qatar Chang-mo Kim and senior leadership from South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT), ITS Korea, and Korea Expressway Corporation. The parties discussed potential collaboration and partnerships with TASMU, MOTC's Smart Qatar program, related specifically to the transport and logistics sector during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and beyond as the parties drew parallels between the World Cup and South Korea's experience during the PyeongChang Winter Olympics 2018. During the meetings, South Korean parties were also briefed on TASMU's projects and the different ways TASMU is driving the intersection of innovation and advanced technology to transform Qatar into a smart country that serves the state's citizens and economy. HE Assistant Undersecretary of Digital Society Development, MOTC Reem Al Mansoori commented: "The engaging presentations and series of B2B and G2G meetings brought to light many aspects of our shared vision for innovation and technological advancement." "Particularly as we look ahead to World Cup 2022, there is abundant potential and opportunity for collaboration between TASMU and our South Korean counterparts to deliver best practices and smart-solutions that facilitate convenience and seamlessness for Qatar's citizens, residents, and visitors," Her Excellency added. HE Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the State of Qatar Chang-mo Kim stated: "The ITS Forum is meaningful as it is in line with the previous discussions and agreements at the highest level. I believe our two countries can share policies and experiences in the area of intellectual transportation systems, and that companies of both countries could have more business opportunities in the area." Director of Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea Sung Seup Kang,, stated: "Here in Doha, Qatar, efforts are being made to establish various transport systems and related infrastructure for the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. The ITS Roadshow is a venue to share visions, plans and experiences of both governments and introduce technologies and experiences of businesses of both countries to discuss cooperation." The ITS Forum comprised of a series of presentations by TASMU; Ashghal; South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation (MOLIT); Hyundai Motors; ITS Korea; and Korea Telecom among others. Each presentation offered key information into the latest technologies and developments related to intelligent transportation systems both in Qatar and South Korea, outlining the cutting-edge products and services in the transportation and logistics sectors. Al Mansoori extended an invitation to QITCOM 2019 to attend and participate in the upcoming conference taking place between October 29th to November 1st, 2019. Held for the 5th time, QITCOM 2019 is an international conference and exhibition that will showcase innovative and disruptive technologies while creating a knowledge sharing platform for technology providers, policy- makers, industry experts, and global thought-leaders.
