Malaysia's Perak to Explore Investment Opportunities In Bangladesh
IPOH (Perak, Malaysia), June 27 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Perak state government will explore new investment opportunities in Bangladesh, said state Investment, Industry and Corridor Development Committee chairman Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin.
He said the opportunities were either in infrastructure development, textile products or electronic products which are among the major imports of Bangladesh.
"We find that there are many investment opportunities that can be undertaken in Bangladesh as that country is the main supplier of ceramic products, seafood, vegetables, refined petroleum products, as well processed food products. Hence, this is our opportunity to invest there.”
He said this to reporters after officiating at the launch of 'The Branding Bangladesh Talk and Roadshow' which was also attended by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md Shahidul Islam here, on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in his speech earlier, Mohammad Nizar said Malaysia was one of the largest foreign investors in Bangladesh.
He said the bilateral trade between the two countries had recorded healthy growth since 2016 and Bangladesh was the second largest trading partner within South Asian countries, overtaking Pakistan, with trade hitting US$1.43 billion (RM5.94 billion, US$1 = RM4.14) in 2016 compared with RM4.46 billion in 2015.
"Malaysia's exports to Bangladesh amounted to RM5.15 billion in 2016 while its imports from Bangladesh totalled RM0.79 billion, contributed mainly by the imports of textiles and apparels products.
"...with all these statistics, it has shown that Malaysia and Bangladesh are working tirelessly to develop the respective country’s economic development to a higher level," he added.
