Electricity Minister attends green economy forum

Manama, July 2 (BNA): Electricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussein Mirza participated in the Middle East and North Africa High Level Forum on the Green Economy 2019, being held in Bahrain until Thursday (July 4). Dr. Mirza stressed that the leadership in Bahrain supports all international efforts in the transformation of the green economy, especially in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and optimal use of water resources. Clean economy is considered environmentally friendly and an important source of economy. The minister said the conference represents an important opportunity for Bahrain to benefit from the experiences of other countries, and the latest developments related to this area to find solutions to ensure and keep pace with development as well as strengthening the economy and attracting investments without disturbing the environment. Dr. Mirza spoke at the seminar in which officials from several ministries from Bahrain and the region are taking part.The seminar focused on the importance of achieving sustainable development in the region by raising awareness about the concept of green economy, strengthening partnership at the regional level and adopting green investment mechanisms. Dr. Mirza highlighted the success of Bahrain in developing the National Renewable Energy Strategy and the establishment of the Sustainable Energy Centre, which is a key focus of investment in renewable energy that promotes green economy. The experience of Bahrain in how to start the transition to the green economy and the obstacles and challenges it faces as well as how to overcome them and turn them into opportunities and benefit from the experiences of institutions with experience from different countries and cultures, for example UNDP and others, was discussed. The minister also highlighted why there is an urgent need in taking practical steps to transform itself into a green economy, especially because of its nature and because the majority of the population is an emerging generation.
