Foreign Minister meets U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman

Washington, July (BNA): The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, today met Chairman of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch, in Washington, within the framework of his official visit to the friendly United States of America. The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the deep-rooted friendly relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United States, which are based on mutual respect and trust. The Minister also expressed delight in the distinguished level of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries at the security, defence, trade, political and economic levels. He also lauded the US efforts to establish stability and security at the regional and international levels and its efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms and those who support and fund it, as well as meet the challenges facing world countries and its keenness to activate various frameworks of international cooperation for the overall benefit. Senator Jim Risch affirmed that the Minister’s official visit to the United States reflects the advanced level of joint cooperation between the two countries at all levels, namely at the defence and security levels, noting the Kingdom’s hosting of the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet and the recent Peace to Prosperity workshop, both of which mirror the depth of partnership and strategic alliance between the two countries. He also highlighted the importance of the continued coordination between the two countries on issues of mutual concerns and establishing security, stability and prosperity in the region, under the keenness of both countries and their mutual desire to bolster partnership between them for the common interest of the two countries and the benefit of regional countries. Senator Jim Risch also stressed the need to confront Iran's illegal policies and actions in order to maintain international peace and security.
