Researchers from five countries compiling their research results

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Today, the 17th international workshop on the fourth phase of the cooperative project titled ‘Deep processes and metallogeny of the Northern-Central-Eastern Asia’ began at the Grand Hill hotel.
About the event, head geologist of the Geological Research Center G.Munkhzul said “Geologists of Mongolia, Russia, China, Kazakhstan, and South Korea convene annually. Mongolia is hosting the 17th meeting with involvement of 44 geologists from the five countries. Although the workshop’s topic is geological research of mineral resources, the research itself is an independent and collaborative scientific project covering geological structures of the Northern, Central, and Eastern Asia”
The researchers have been releasing 1:3 000 000 to 1:5 000 000 geological maps after presenting theoretical and practical reports and enriching their information on the regional geology and mineral resources in their previous meetings.
At this year’s conference, the countries are presenting the studies they are conducting within the fourth phase of the project. In the fourth phase a research is being conducted on Altai Mountain region in Mongolia and the relevant parties agreed to make more researches on Altai Mountains in Russian territory. The research information compiled at the meeting will be presented at the international geological congress in India and featured in an international journal.
“Russia and China are showing interest to continue the geological research project in further phases. Initiatives are being put to expand researches to Southwestern Asian countries including Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan”, Mr. G.Munkhzul said.
Following the two-day workshop, the researchers will head off to Bayan-Unjuul soum of Tuv aimag for a field excursion.
