Abu Dhabi DED signs cooperation agreement with Egypt's IDSC

Abu Dhabi, 6 April, 2009 (WAM) - The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Abu Dhabi has signed today a joint cooperation agreement with the Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC), a subsidiary of the Egyptian Cabinet of Ministers, with the aim of establishing a professional and specialized information management and decision support unit in the Department.
The agreement was signed at DED's headquarters by HE Nasser bin Ahmad Al-Suwaidi, Chairman of DED and Dr. Majed Osman, the Centre's Chairman in the presence of HE Mohammed Omar, DED,s Undersecretary, HE Muhammad Saa'd Ubaid, the Ambassador of Egypt to UAE and other officials from DED and from the Egyptian Embassy.
HE Nasser bin Ahmad Al-Suwaidi, Chairman of DED expressed his delight to sign this significant agreement with the Centre, and welcomed any form of joint cooperation between both sides. He added that this agreement comes within the framework of further strengthening the close relationship between the two countries.
"DED is keen to develop information management systems in the fields of research, studies and statistical data, as they are some of the most important sources of support for decision makers in the emirate, as well as being a key in addressing many issues that are primary drivers of domestic economy." Said Al-Suwaidi .
He further indicated the present need for in-house development through cooperation and integration among all stakeholders, especially among Arab countries. He added that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, according to its Economic Vision 2030, seeks to create a number of strategic partnerships that would support the development of the emirate's economy by learning from past successes and valuable experiences.
He then referred to the distinctive role played by the Information and Decision Support Centre in Egypt, anticipating the benefits to be gained from the transfer of its experience and its successful projects to the Department through this agreement.
Dr. Majed Osman, IDSC Chairman, said that the Government of Egypt, realizing the importance of information to support decision and to achieve sustainable socio-economic development, has established this Centre as a subsidiary of the Cabinet of Ministers in order to contribute to the creation of a society that relies on information and knowledge in achieving its national objectives.
"IDSC contributes to human resource development programmes and establishes communication and cooperation channels at the national, regional and international levels, especially with other Arab countries," said Dr. Osman.
He applauded the anticipated positive results of signing this agreement which come from the mutual desire of both parties to establish further cooperation in this field, and made reference to the economic and cultural developments taking place currently in the UAE, and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular. He added that such developments require the availability of accurate and relevant information and data to support decision-makers.
According to the agreement, IDSC shall make executive presentations in the field of strategic planning for information and knowledge projects. They will include strategy formulation; preparation, supervision and evaluation of projects and management systems, particularly enterprise resources.
IDSC will also keep DED updated on its experience in the field of information, which includes many activities such as data management systems that prevent any inconsistency in data; the establishment of national data; and the issuance of national indexes that reflect the present economic situation, in addition to numerous informational publications such as bulletins, periodicals and reports.
Under this agreement, IDSC will further provide DED with its experience in the preparation and evaluation of economic research and studies, composite indicators, and the preparation of public opinion polls and the required systems. These will include the establishment of a call centre for public opinion polls, the preparation of studies based on field research and the implementation of electronic systems in the Department. There will be a subsequent transfer of expertise with respect to samples and applications in addition to the transfer of automated systems.
In execution of this agreement, both parties shall cooperate in organizing and participating in technical meetings, conferences, seminars, and training courses. They will further work on the development of cooperation in various fields such as the publication and distribution of printed materials, books and bulletins related to the topics covered in the agreement between the two sides.
