KEBUN RIMAU TO EMERGE M'SIA'S FIRST NONI POWDER PRODUCER

TAWAU (Malaysia), April 6 (Bernama) -- Kebun Rimau Sdn Bhd will emerge as the first Noni powder producer in the country when mass production begins before year-end.
Kebun Rimau General Manager K. Arunagirinathan said facilities to produce
the noni fruit-based powder has been set up within the integrated plantation
area and production trial was in progress.
"Our noni powder processing machine is in our Balung River Estate where noni
is among the more than 30 types of herbal plants and fruit trees planted. They
are growing very well without using chemical fertilizers.
"The new product is an effort by us to value add our
noni fruit uses. All this while we only process noni juice from the fruits,"
he told Bernama when met at the plantation, about 60km from here.
Arunagirinathan said that if all plans go smoothly the first noni powder
mass production will begin either in June or July.
He said the noni powder is not only for the local market but also for export
to European Union countries, the United States and to the Middle East.
Balung Processing Facilities General Manager Nigel Dunlop said noni powder
is used to produce tablets and candies for smokers by mixing it with another
organic material.
He said the candy is very useful to help addicted smokers give up their
smoking habit.
"When you eat the candies it make cigarette taste bad. So you will not like
cigarettes," he said.
Arunagirinathan said the company will process about one tonne fresh noni
fruits into noni juice daily and the production capacity can be increased to
five tonnes a day.
"It depends on market demand. The noni juice production volume can be
increased at any time. Fresh noni fruits are available in our plantation to
meet customers' requests," he said.
He said the company has adequate supply of noni fruits, grown 100 per cent
using organic fertilizer, from its 101ha noni plantation.
On the market for the company's noni juice, Arunagirinathan said: "So far
our "Balung" trade mark noni juice is only for the Malaysian market. However, if
there is demand, we are ready to market them abroad."
Noni juice is good to improve the body immunity system, especially
people with high blood pressure, blood vessel problems, suffering from stress
and depression, unable to sleep, diabetes, indigestion and kidney ailment.
